Who We Are:

The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of Rock Creek Valley (RCV) elementary school is formed by its parents, teachers and administrators. It is a non-profit membership organization with the purpose of enriching the school community as well as fostering the communication between the parents, teachers and school administration.

What We Do:

The RCV PTA sponsors and organizes many social and academic activities throughout the school year in order to enrich our children's school experience and support our school staff. Among them are:

• Fall and Spring Family Fun Night: When the school community gathers to play bingo, eat pizza, and yell for one more turn on the Bingo card!
• Fall Family Dance: No lining up with boys on one side and girls on the other! At this high-energy dance, kids and parents get up and move to the tunes, led by a DJ, and join in fun, active games.
• International Night: The nations of the world come to RCV and their families show their pride at this event, which features food, crafts and entertainment from across the globe.
• Parties and Cultural Arts: Halloween and Valentine's Day class parties and cultural arts assemblies.
• After-School Programs: These include Foreign Language for Elementary Students (FLES), Hands-on Science, and Group Piano.
• Staff Appreciation: The PTA shows its support for the RCV staff in a variety of ways, including special breakfasts, dinners and small gifts throughout the year.
• Fund-Raising: We have several fund-raisers during the year, including Scholastic Book Fairs, Sally Foster sales, and sales of RCV Spirit Wear.

When We Meet:

We meet on the first Tuesday of every month at 7 pm in the school’s Media Center. Usually, the principal, Ms. Catherine Jaspers, starts the meeting by giving us a very informative update on what’s happening at school and/or the school system. Then we discuss regular PTA business and what is happening in the Montgomery County Council of PTAs (MCCPTA) and other special groups. We also discuss problems or suggestions from parents and frequently welcome speakers on issues relevant to our children, such as internet safety or parenting.

Every parent is welcome and babysitting service is available during the meeting.
